Getting Started
1. Locate your area of interest
There are several ways to zoom and pan to navigate this mapping tool:
- Hold the Shift key and drag the mouse over an area. (Red box should show).
- Use the mouse wheel forward and back.
- Use the (+) or (-) on the Navigation tool.
- Use the 'Search by Location' Tool.
2. Create a pour point
Click on the blue icon, and then click on the map to create a pour point. It is advised to click on a hydrographic feature, but it is not required.
You may also type in the latitude/longitude directly. Be sure to click on the 'Mark Point' afterwards.
3. Refer to the messages provided for guidance
Messages will appear after a pour point has been made.
Messages are listed as:
- A stream has been selected. If you would like to run the Peak Discharge Model
for this point, complete the form below and click 'Submit'. You will be emailed when your report has completed.
- You have successfully selected a stream and are ready to run the custom report.
- Streamcode: You have not selected a point on a stream.
Are you sure you want to continue?
- If you intended to click on a stream, zoom in a little more and try again. If you intended to not be directly on a stream, then continue to fill in your contact information and click "Submit". A
report will be generated from the location you specified.
- You have selected more than one stream. Please select only one by moving up or down the stream.
- You have clicked near the confluence of two or more streams. Move upstream or downstream to create a pour point.
- A gaging station has been selected and the report is available.
- Gaging stations provide more acurate information
than the Peak Discharge Estimation Model. In this scenerios, the Auto-Delineate Report is replaced with Station Report.
- Peak discharge cannot be determined at this location
- You have selected a point that falls outside of the area of available data for this study.
4. Enter contact information
Type in your first and last name, email (required), and a phone number
if you would like to be contacted via phone.
After entering your contact information, click 'Submit'.
When the request is complete, an email will be sent to you. You may also track the status of your reports under the link
Status of Reports."
5. Generate a report
The Peak Discharge Estimation Program has the ability to calculate peak discharge using several different approaches
- Submit - Creates a user-defined watershed above the selected point.
- Station Report -Estimates peak discharge from stream gage measurements.
- WAB Report - Uses a pre-existing watershed for calculation.
6. Follow email instructions
The email sent to you will have the tracking number in the title. A website link will be provided in the email if the
request was successful. If the request was not successful, the email will provide a reason, such as the watershed
delineation is too small to generate a report.
